Frequently asked questions

"It's rare to find tap in the real world .... it's cool too. We came to the last session and were so impressed we've dragged all our friends here this time"

Q: What is a tap jam?

A: A tap jam is a jam session with an emphasis on the tap dancer. It is a place for tap dancers to improvise with a live jazz band as well as with other dancers/musicians.

Q: Are only tap dancers allowed?

A: Most people who come to the jam are not dancers or musicians, just those who love to see and hear the performances. Of course, if you are a tap dancer or musician, you are welcome to join the jam, and there is a discount (£5 instead of £6) on the door.

Q: Do you have to be a professional to join in?

A: No, the performers at the jam are both amateurs and professionals.

Q: Can under-18s come to the jam?

A: Unfortunately, Ronnie Scott's cannot allow under-18s in the upstairs bar. However, we do occasionally run jams in other locations, which may have different restrictions. Join our mailing list (see below) to hear about any future events.

Q: Can I book tickets in advance?

A: We generally only sell advance tickets as part of special events, but if you arrive at 7pm, you won't have any trouble getting a seat.

"I think it’s what you feel, how you feel, how you want to express yourself at that time."

Q: What is the renegade stage?

A: The renegade stage is an opportunity before the event starts for tap dancers to try improvisation in a group - without an audience. For more details, go here.

Q: Do you supply shoes?

A: Unfortunately, due to cost and practicality, we do not supply or sell shoes. If you are looking for a pair of shoes, feel free to contact us for our recommendations.

Q: How do I join or unsubscribe from your mailing list?

A: To join the mailing list, send a blank email to announce-subscribe@londontapjam.org. To leave the mailing list, go to the list options page, type your email address (you don't need your password) and press "Unsubscribe".
